    Buckingham Palace Summer Opening 2018

Each summer, Buckingham Palace opens its doors to the public who are invited inside to explore the Queen’s most famous home. Every year, for ten weeks, while the Queen is on holiday, this iconic British landmark allows tourists and locals alike to step inside and gain insight into what the Queen’s home life is like. Led by a tour followed by an exhibition, guests will be guided around 19 state rooms within this 775-room estate. This year the palace will be open from July 30th, 2018 – September 30th, 2018. This is one of the top things to do in London this summer and it should certainly not be missed.

Walk up the Grand Staircase to reach the state rooms which are comprised of magnificent furnishings and décor. This is where the Queen hosts receptions and you will also be given the chance to visit the Throne room where you will become enthralled by the regal essence of this exquisite building which will draw you in with its antiquity and grandeur.

Wander around the incredible picture gallery where some of the most fascinating pieces from the Royal Collection decorate the walls with many paintings deriving from as far back as the 17th century. The Ballroom is truly glorious with its deep red colour scheme which radiates opulence. Two thrones sit proudly at the top of the room which were made for the coronation ceremony of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1902.

During the tour, guests can enjoy looking at many collections of paintings, furnishings and more and each room provides listings to explain what these collections are and the story behind them. Depending on the time of your tour, you may be lucky to witness the changing of the guard. This world-famous tradition takes place every day in the summer and involves the Queen’s guards marching to Buckingham Palace from Wellington Barracks along with music.

Each year, different exhibitions take place as a part of the tour and this year to celebrate the Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday, a display of the Prince’s favourite pieces, chosen especially by His Royal Highness, will be on display to share with visitors. At the end of the tour, enjoy a relaxing stroll around the picturesque gardens followed by a spot of tea at the Garden Café.
